I've just read an interesting discussion on a Swedish RPG forum
(forum.rollspel.nu). A guy had just bough RQ3 with the intention of
stealing an idea or two for his house-rule set. He was very surprised
when he found out that RQ, even though it's an almost 20 year old game,
solved many problems in better ways than the more recent Swedish BRP
spin-offs have done. The discussion then moved on to talk about why the
Swedish games had drifted off so much from the original.

interesting and that is: why is it that people still get hooked on RQ,
after all it's an old game. What are the enduring qualities of RQ?

To me, the greatest strength of RuneQuest is that the rules are highly flexible. You can almost ditch whatever rule you don't like, and still have a very playable game.

Another strength is the consistency of the stats/HP/MP system.
