Actually, it was theoretically created for the world, not vice 
versa.  And by all evidence, the creator of that world (Greg 
Stafford) never thought the system optimal for the world.  The fact 
that most players of the game automatically associate the two 
together does not tell me that, in the end, they really belong 
together that well.
