I think this is an overstatement, personally.  While there should be 
enough differences in psychology to tell nonhumans from humans in 
suits, creatures evolved in similar shapes and environments to 
humans, and with not vastly divergent biology, should share far more 
than they differ.  There are higher animals on this planet that vary 
from us more than elves and dwarves do, but I don't doubt that if 
they were intelligent and could talk, they'd not come across as 
truely alien; an intelligent dog, for example, would clearly 
be  driven in different ways than humans are, but I don't believe so 
much so that they'd come across as truly alien.
