My experience has been quite different. In Madison, where I lived for a
long time, there is a large contingent of table-top gamers who also do
live-action role playing (LARPing). Not all LARPers table-top, but most of
the table-toppers I know have done some LARPing.
For the record, I started with Empire of the Petal Throne and then D&D
in 1975 when I was 8 *(my brothers were in their teens, and they found EPT
before D&D). I've been gaming ever since.
